Ali Landry: I Stopped Exercising for Two Years
In fact, the former Doritos girl took almost two years off from working out following the July 2007 birth of daughter Estela with her husband, film director Alejandro Gomez Monteverde.
Instead of hitting the gym, Landry, 34, relied on a home-delivery meal service to drop her pregnancy pounds. "I lost the majority of the [post-baby] weight pretty fast doing that! ," Landry told PEOPLE at Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS A Time for Heroes Celebrity Carnival in L.A. recently. "But I have to say, it was that skinny fat when you don't work out, and you're not toned."
Jumping Back Into Shape
But Landry quickly got shocked back into exercise mode when she was asked to join the cast of the ABC celebrity sports competition The Superstars (which premieres June 23) and realized she'd be baring her body. "When I got the paperwork for Superstars, and I saw they asked what size swimsuit I wear, I had a hot flash, nearly broke into cold sweats and hired a trainer immediately," she says. Now back in shape and ready to compete alongside baseball player Jeff Kent, her partner on Superstars (which pairs celebs and pro athletes to compete in various sporting events), Landry feels confident about her body. And she hopes to inspire other new moms.
"They, I think, put me in! the best shape of my entire life. I am in shock that I have [! definiti on] in my stomach after having a baby I didn't even know that was possible," she says. "Hopefully, that will be encouraging to all the women out there who don't feel so good about their body after a baby."
